Right now, professional, career politicians are in league with special interest lobbyist and lawyers and they are selling out the people they are elected to represent. And it is happening each and every day.
I believe that we can do something to change the balance of power and return to a Democracy of, for and by the people.
I refuse to believe that the helm of our government is forever destined to be run by the elite and wealthy.
I have to believe running our government is about more than power and money and who has the biggest bank account on election day.
This is the first time I've run for public office. But that is not a disadvantage. We've all seen from our current representative that politics is the one profession where the more experience you have, the worse you treat your constituents.
Politics should NOT be a profession. Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin envisioned businessmen, farmers, clergymen, town elders... average everyday citizens, doing their civic duty for a period of time and THEN GOING BACK HOME.
And this:
There has always been corruption and greed-but when my father was raising his family, corporate greed and malfeasance was tempered by strong unions and the fact that our elected officials would never allow it to happen.
There will always be rich and poor. But the gap between rich and poor has never been greater than it is right now, and that divide is quickly becoming a chasm.
Yes there will always be rich and poor. That is a fact. References to rich and poor go back to the Old Testament.
But our middle class is a distinctly American Phenomenon.
It was born out of the optimism of a generation that weathered the Great Depression, endured the horrors of War, freed the world from tyranny....
And then they came home to create something the world had never seen... A secure and solid middle class of citizens.
They came home and went to work. They raise their families, and they DEMANDED equality. They EXPECTED healthcare, and a comprehensive public school system to educate their children.
These are the values I was raised with. These are the values to which we must return.

Why did I call up an old speech by my friend during a losing campaign? Just look at those profound words. I refuse to believe that the wealthy and elite will forever control our republic. I refuse to believe that it all boils down to who has the most money on election day. Our country and people are better than that.
These are the same reasons I support John Edwards to win the Democratic nomination. If you listen to those words, and then think about what John Edwards is saying, and the policies he is laying foward, how could I support anyone else? John Edwards is committed to taking government from the elite and powerful, and giving it back to the American people.
To the unions, who have built our middle-class. To the seniors, who have paid their dues and should be able to retire in comfort. To the parents and grandparents who are worried about the tarnished legacy of our country that they will leave behind. But mostly, to the children, who will become the first generation ever to inherit a country that isn't better than the one their parents did.
Can we ever take our country back? Yes, we can. We need only to rally behind a leader that cares enough to get it done. I know many want to accuse Edwards supporters of being in a "Cult" or other equally as ridiculous things. Before you say that, I ask only you look back at what I was fighting for last year, and look at what John Edwards fights for now. I am more than proud to be part of that fight, and I hope you will join me.
Please note I refrained from attacking any candidate in this diary. Please show me the same respect in the comments.
