Now, with all we have heard the last several years about how we don't "Support the troops", or "honor the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform", just check out this story:
Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Today Senator John Edwards released the following statement:
"I am both astonished and horrified at reports that the Pentagon is sending injured soldiers who have not completed their tours of duty bills for portions of their signing bonuses.
"This administration has already underserved our service men and women through scandals like Walter Reed, relentless deployments and the extension of tours to a grueling 15 months. But the practices outlined in this report are even more reprehensible.
"As president, I will make sure our injured veterans receive our gratitude and our support – not a bill from the government. Throughout this campaign, I have proposed bold policies to restore our sacred contract with our veterans and military families, from guaranteeing health care to fixing the disgraceful backlog in disability claims at the VA to providing a comprehensive plan for victims of post-traumatic stress disorder. I call on Congress to force George Bush to change this terrible practice and allow injured soldiers to keep their signing bonuses. During a week when we give thanks, these brave men and women deserve no less for their heroism and their service to our nation."

Now, this is so hypocritical it just makes me want to vomit when I read it. I am told that I don't support our troops because I don't want them in a country that didn't attack us. I am told I am a traitor because I want this idiotic war started at the whim of a madman to end. Now, that very madman dishonors and degrades the sacrifice of brave young men and women who have served our country honorably and bravely. The very madman who dodged serving, and all he can do besides making them heal with cockroaches at Walter Reed is send them a bill for the portion of their bonuses that he feels they didn't earn because they were injured? As if giving their health and well being to our country is not earning their bonuses?
(Sighs) What a complete and total disgrace!!!! This country owes any soldier's family who has died, or any soldier who has been injured in Bush's folly their complete and total package of pay and benefits whether they could complete their tours of duty or not. To think that this man sent them without proper equipment or planning to die and be injured for his failed, maniacal, lunatic far-right idiotic plan for a facist middle-east and now wants to bill them because they were hurt and couldn't finish the work he was too cowardly to do when he was young just makes my ears steam with anger. Who in the hell does this maniac think he is? We shoud all fight for the pay of our brave young men and women who have sacrificed more than many of us can ever know. As soon as they stepped off the plane in the desert of Bush's folly, they earned every red cent of that bonus and more. What a disgrace!!!!
Think I went too far in describing Bush's folly as a plan for a facist middle-east? Well, just look at this next disgrace from Saudi Arabia, our "ally" and a country whose citizens tend to invest in George W. Bush:
"Today’s news that a Saudi Arabian court has chosen to punish the victim of a gang rape is an appalling breach of the most fundamental human rights. I am outraged that President Bush has refused to condemn the sentence. We need a president who will reengage with the world and restore our moral authority - only then will we be able to lead other nations in protecting the basic rights and human dignity of every person on this planet."

If this is not a facist society I don't know what is. Just imagine if your daughter, or any other for that matter had to endure vicious gang rape by a group of violent criminals, and then despite this horrible crime committed against her, an innocent victim she is horded to jail and her rapists are set free. What would even be the charge? Enticing rape? In one of those beekeeper suits they must wear? Please. This woman deserves our compassion, understanding, and most of all she deserves justice. This is a tragedy for an innocent woman and the world for that matter.
I would like to thank John Edwards for not only speaking on these issues, but for making me aware of them. We need a real leader in the White House who will truly honor our veterans and will restore our moral leadership in the world. We surely need a President who will stand up to the Saudis instead of taking money from them.
I think John Edwards is the leader we need. Not only has he spoken on these things, but he has come out with detailed, common sense plans to restore respect to our servicemen and woman and veterans, and restore our moral authority in the world. See them here:
