This is....disturbing to say the least. Hat tips to crooks-and-liars and Digby
From Fox News
In 1998, David Huckabee was among two boys fired from a Boy Scout camp after a stray dog was killed after wandering onto camp property. David Huckabee, 17 at the time, said the dog appeared ill; no charges were filed. The elder Huckabee said then that politics was behind the dog-killing accusation.
But, as Digby digs up, there is more to this story than a simple 'dog killing'....
Digy reports that Kinky Friedman's Animal Rescue Organization has a bit more information on the story:
Two boy scout counselors, 17 year old Clayton Frady and 18 year old David Huckckabee, the son of Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, have admitted to catching a stray dog during their summer session at Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, AR, and hanging the dog by his neck, slitting his throat and stoning him to death.
Camp officials, who did not report the crime to law enforcement officials, have admitted that the act did occur and have fired the boys from their positions. However, no charges have been filed against the young men.
Why is this important? Folks, Michael Vick, as we all know, was busted on exactly this sort of thing.
Several questions.
First, is this allegation true?
Second, why were the young men not arrested?
Was there, in other words, any HINT of interference by then-governor Mike Huckabee?
Third, has Huckabee's son gotten therapy?
Fourth, are there any other incidents like this?
Fifth, Huckabee's reluctance to release his sermons to the public suggests there is something 'not right' here. Is there something to hide?
I am not one for the politics of character assassination. Nor would I ever condone attacking another man's family. But, the horrific nature of this allegation leads me to bring it up for discussion.
