Okay, so i've said it many times before that Susan Collins made a pledge to serve only two terms. So far, the only proof of that i've been able to show you is a clip from the Bangor newspaper where she said she would only serve two terms. Now I have the hard evidence. Here's an audio clip from Sanford back in 1996, transcript first.
Audience Member: Simple question, requires a one word answer, three of you support term limit amendment to the constitution, i want you to take the pledge, if you are elected will you serve twelve years and no more
Susan Collins: Yes
More below the fold
Here's the audio clip (mp3). Along with the audio clip, here's a letter from Susan Collins to a constituent dated Sept. 6, 2002.
Dear Mr. Lindemann:
Thank you for contacting me regarding term limits. I appreciate your taking the time to do so.
I am proud of the accomplishments I have made during my first term, and I hope to have the opportunity to serve the people of Maine in the Senate for another six years. I intend to serve only two terms as I indicated in the Sanford forum six years ago.
Again, thank you for contacting me. I appreciate having the benefit of your views.
Sincerely,
Susan Collins
Here's a link to that letter (pdf).
You made your pledge. You re-affirmed your pledge. It's your duty to the people of Maine to stick by your pledge. Do the right thing Ms. Collins, please retire after this term.
