In a way, I don't think any of us are truly surprised that the Edwards family will continue their work to make America a better place. They have a courage and fortitude that is often spoken of by lesser people, but rarely exemplified so well under such adverse circumstances. And we all know that the fight they continue is not for personal glory, or financial gain, but for the One America that they believe we can achieve and that we as a people deserve.
They fight for an America where everyone has access to the stellar health care that Elizabeth Edwards will use to fight her cancer. An America where children don't have to go to bed hungry because their parents' jobs got sent overseas. An America where we are no longer feared and reviled in the world, but are once again looked to as a beacon of freedom and hope in a dark and dangerous world. An America where we take the lead in changing our world for the better and stopping climate change before it's too late. An America where everyone gets a fair shake, regardless of how rich your family is or where you were born. They fight for the America we were all taught to believe existed in school, even though we saw the proof with our own eyes that we had yet to make it a reality.
John and Elizabeth Edwards are making yet another sacrifice to help bring opportunities to millions of Americans that they were lucky enough to have on their own. But they cannot do it alone. More must be done and more will be done, if only we all work together. How often have we looked around us and felt that there was nothing that we could do? How often have we decided to do what was easy rather than what was right? How often have we sat on the sidelines waiting for others to make the first step? Once is too often, and I'm sure it is much more often than that for everyone.
John and Elizabeth Edwards are continuing the fight, most likely at a great personal cost. Yet now is not the time to despair. Now is the time to take up arms against the sea of troubles that threatens to consume us. I, for one, will stand with them. Join us in making tomorrow begin today. Visit the Edwards campaign website. Learn where he stands on the issues. Spread the word about building One America. Make a contribution to the campaign. Most importantly, don't give up hope and don't give up the fight. Follow the example of John and Elizabeth Edwards and fight to make One America a reality.
