Several posts that I have read question why John Edwards would continue to campaign given his wife's diagnosis.
If god forbid something were to happen to me or my family, one of my first reactions would be to research what the outlook for a cure is. I'd try to do everything in my power to do what I can to find a cure for this terrible disease. If not for the members of my family, then to at least know that others won't have to suffer the same way in the future.
Of course, the scope of what I can do is very limited; raise some money, participate in events, etc... But overall, I'd feel pretty powerless against this disease.
On the other hand, John Edwards has a real chance to become President of the United States, a position that would give him the power to support research with real funds to find a cure.
It would give him a chance to make sure that all Americans have access to quality health care, so that a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence if you don't have health insurance.
Even if he doesn't become President, the Edwards family has a chance to really put the spotlight on this terrible disease. And perhaps help to one day find a cure.
Isn't that motivation enough to stay in the race?
