A British officer was said to have written this to a colleague back in England at the time of the American Revolution. He was involved in putting down the rebellion, and the problem was those pesky Rebels weren’t playing by the rules. They were aiming at the British officers, and because many of the frontiersmen had new rifled weapons, they were deadly accurate. As far as many British officers were concerned, rifles were the difference maker in that war.

Well Gonzo my advice to you and the rest of your DoJ swine is to put your affairs in order. And fat ass Lord Marshal Rove and his little righteous, righty cabal in the West Wing best put their affairs in order.

Because the irregular militias of units like Daily Kos and the rebel leaders of the blogosphere have got the new rifles, and your imperial swine will remain under fire as long the facts ‘bubble up’ on the Internets.

So General Gonzo, as you and your hapless minions stagger down that crooked path of your verbal creation be prepared to suffer volley after volley of infernal facts and bad news coming from the irregulars hidden in the Internet weeds. Madding that you don’t know where the next blast is coming from, isn’t it?

Already First Lieutenant Goodling – obviously of inferior breeding and even worse education – has cracked. She’s cut and run into the weeds and is now proclaiming the same rights she would so willingly deny those arrayed against her.

And Sen. Leahy is more than familiar with the 5th Amendment as a result, and knows that it cannot be invoked unless or until the person invoking it feels that they will be incriminating themselves with regard to specific criminal conduct, not just some vague possibility for the White House laying its own perjury trap for underlings to keep Rove and Gonzales safe — unfortunately for Goodling, having snakes as colleagues and being worried that they will stab you in the back in a heartbeat to save themselves is NOT a valid reason to take the Fifth.

No fear of criminal implication against oneself, no 5th Amendment. Which means that Ms. Goodling can only invoke this if she fears that she has done something which is prosecutable under the law. No taking the 5th because you might embarrass yourself, your boss, or your political cronies — there has to be a connection to some criminal matter in order for it to be properly invoked. And no invoking it as a means to avoid testimony that might be difficult because you might have to rat out folks higher up on the crony chain — the law does not make exceptions for the powerful, nor does it make exceptions for the vindictive and nasty. Truth is truth. Period.

And no taking the 5th just because the mean old Senators and Congresspeople want to do their sworn Constitutional duty and provide oversight in the possibility that you and your peeps at the DoJ, and all the various and sundry minions in Rove's political shop decided that you could run the United States government as your own personal electioneering machine, regardless of the laws of this nation. Even Boss Tweed had to pay the piper for his corruption and graft in the end, and just because you work for the President's bestest buddy does not mean that you don't have to follow the law, too. (Hint: You work at the DoJ. Try hanging out in the law library and actually reading the books there. Start with a text on the Constitution — you clearly need a refresher.)

And the Rebel that instigated much of this attack continues to blast away. Josh Marshall on TPM:

But only fools believe that. It's always about the crime. The whole point of the cover-up is that a full revelation of the underlying crime is not survivable. Let me repeat that, the whole point of the cover-up is a recognition that a full revelation of the underlying bad act is not survivable. Indeed, the cover-ups are usually successful. And that's why they're tried so often. Just look at this administration. They're the ultimate example of this truth.

Just consider Watergate -- the ur-scandal from which this bit of faux wisdom emanates. Of course, there had to be a cover-up. How long would Richard Nixon have lasted in the White House after he came forward and admitted that he had a private team of professional crooks breaking into the opposition party's headquarters and committing various other crimes at his behest? How would that have gone over?

There are rebel leaders, bloggers, and other irregulars such as many Kossacks who take the ammunition provided by your lies, analyze and discuss them, and then we fashion new talking point volleys that are aime right at your lying asses. So where’s the next volley coming from, the left, the right, the left, the rear, the left, the front, high, high left, low, low left? (I had to throw enough lefts in there for the paraniod righties LOL).

We’ve got our rifles that are our computers linked to what little King George calls the Internets. Keep trudging along your crooked path you troglodyte morons. More volleys await, and we think it is damn fine sport.

General Gonzo for you and your hapless, clueless, criminal band it looks like all your crooked roads lead to what seems to be a modern version of Yorktown. So march onward you righteous, righty Christian soldiers! And......General Gonzo one last question, has King George given you a new sword to fall on?
