This is the best the Republicans can do, it looks like. In 2003, the Colorado legislature was controlled by Republicans, so I have little doubt that map would favor the Republicans. In fact, just look at it. That downtown gerrymander with Districts 6 and 7 is the hallmark of Republicans trying to pack all the urbanites into one place. The current map is working just fine.
I don't know if the Democrats stand to pick up any seats in Colorado next year, but if the Court let the Republicans redraw the lines à la Tom DeLay, we'd most likely lose a seat or two.
I might say it sounds like the Colorado Republicans are in their final throes, but there's something about that turn of phrase that seldom seems appropriate. Final throes for the time being, though—thus these desperate moves. But for now, it's nothing but good news!
