A recent update by Kos that former Senator John Edwards will be skipping the Fox News Presidential debate is, to say the least, encouraging. I think that we can all agree that Senator Edwards should be applauded for standing up to a network that is little more than a propaganda arm of the Republican Party.
It is not enough, however, that Edwards made his decision. Just as politicians need to answer for poor decisions, so too should they be lauded for good ones.
For that reason, I propose that everyone here – whether you support Edwards, or Obama, or Clinton, or even Gravel – go to the Edwards campaign site and donate to his campaign. Afterwards, contact the Edwards campaign to let them know why you donated, and to make clear to them that courage is rewarded.
Even better yet, after you’ve e-mailed Edwards, contact the other Democratic campaigns to let them know why it is that you gave to the former North Carolina Senator. And, if you feel you have the financial resources, commit to donating the same amount to their campaigns if they refuse to show at the Fox News debate, as well.
In this era of high stakes political fundraising, money talks. If enough people get together and contribute to Edwards for his decision, it will send a clear message to the Democratic candidates that we – the party loyalists – want candidates who are willing to stand up for themselves, and for the Democratic Party.
UPDATE:
Please feel free to copy the text of this diary, and send it to every loyal Democrat you know. The more people who get on board with this, the better.
