The Texas Values in Action Coalition (TEXVAC) is fighting the Republican noise machince in North Texas.
TEXVAC is the new PAC in North Texas to elect Democrats. It is building a rapid response capability that was put to the test this week when a Republican County Commissioner attacked our Democratic Sheriff in a blatant attempt to deflect blame from the Republican controlled Commissioner's Court. We here at Kos talk about rebuilding the Party from the ground up, well TEXVAC is starting to do just that in North Texas.

On Wednesday Democratic Sheriff Lupe Valdez was attacked by Republican Dallas County Commissioner Ken Mayfield, and the Texas Values in Action Coalition responded. After the attack, TEXVAC immediately sent a press release (see below) to print and radio outlets pointing out Ken Mayfield's hypocrisy--having been part of the Commissioners Court that under-funded the jail for over a decade, he now blames Sheriff Valdez for problems he and previous Republican Sheriffs created. Having received only 51% of the vote in 2002, Mayfield is an incumbent who is worried about his own re-election and looking for someone to blame for his problems. This is TEXVAC's commitment--to rapidly respond to the Republican noise machine, to promote a strong Democratic message in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth media market, and to provide training, financing, and message support to candidates in targeted races.
To continue this work, we are asking for your support. June 30 next week is the closing date for our first Texas Ethics Commission Report. As of today, thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, we can report $89,000 cash-on-hand. But we know that the Republicans will be watching for our report and it would send a much stronger symbol if we could report $100,000. That means we need to raise just $11,000 before the close of business next Thursday, June 30.
We need your help to meet that goal. Raising $11,000 in the next 7 days will send two important messages:
* North Texas Democrats are ready to put together the resources we need to fight the Republican machine right here at home.
* Potential Democratic candidates will understand that there will be real resources for their races.
