Lots of stuff to talk about today.
- Another midwife appointment today. My wife is STILL at 2 cms dilated, unchanged for the last three weeks. However, she is now 70 percent effaced, so the midwife estimates this baby will be born early next week. Tell me this baby isn't ready to pop out:

And that picture was taken TWO weeks ago.
- Remember how Bill Donahue, the guy who claims to speak for Catholics but doesn't really, thought Kerry was the worst Catholic ever for supporting Choice? Now we have Giuliani, a Catholic, who doesn't just support choice, but supports government funding of abortions. So where's Donahue? Pastordan was riffing off Sisyphus Shrugged's take on the subject.
- Success breeds success.
In the 24-hour period following Wednesday morning's announcement that his campaign raised $25 million during the first quarter, Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign says it has taken in an additional $435,000 via the Internet. The campaign says the contributions came from more than 4,600 people, including nearly 4,300 who had not previously given.
For those keeping track, those 4,300 new contributors is an increase of 4.3% over their Q1 tally -- in a single day.
- Holy crap, is this is hilarious! Crooks and Liars:
This is too much...Phoenix Fox 10 News runs a poll to see who is "the most foolish American" and the host proclaims—Britney Spears the winner! That wouldn't be surprising except that the real winner of the poll was.....drum roll please......George Bush....
What's really funny is the graphic they have up on screen at the time:

- The next time I'm in a secret meeting with George Soros, maybe he can cut me a check?
- Great piece on the lack of financial support for bloggers. I'm not talking those few of us who can afford to make a living off of this, but the countless others who can't. As I say in the piece, it's particularly galling to me that Digby needs a day job. To me, that (more than anything else) symbolizes the dearth of respect bloggers get in the progressive world. Given the hundreds of millions pissed away on ineffective progressive organizations every year, it annoys me that none of that ends up in a place that is driving a huge chunk of activism today. SusanG nails it perfectly:
Susan Gardner, a fellow at Daily Kos who once observed that money is to liberals what sex is to conservatives, says that not paying bloggers devalues their effort. "The left looks at money as so suspect that it expects a lot of volunteer labor. That's dishonoring the work." The left's attitude towards money is, of course, in direct contrast with the right, which has systematically poured money into conservative media and think tanks for decades.
It's the reason I started funding fellows (I have four right now), and as site revenues increase (advertising and subscriptions), I'll be able to add to that roster. I figured if the people with the real money can't do it, then those of us with a little extra will have to fill the void. Hopefully, that won't be the case for much longer and articles like that one spur additional institutional support.
- Quick: your company has lost $12 billion dollars in a year. The new CEO has been on the job only 4 months. Workers are facing benefit cuts and massive job losses. What do you do? Come on, what do you do? If you're Ford, you give a $18.5 million bonus to the CEO, on top of his piddling $10 million salary. (added by Devilstower)
- OR-Sen: Draft DeFazio site launched. Hopefully they'll have a petition form up there soon to start collecting names.
