In fact, he and Richardson have gained at Clinton and Obama's expense!
Among Democratic contenders, former Sen. John Edwards now holds a 5-point lead, climbing up to 27 percent. Sens. Hillary Clinton, D-New York, and Barack Obama, D-Illinois, both fell 6 points. They now sit at 22 and 16 percent, respectively.
Edwards wasn’t the only Democrat gaining, however. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson gained 4 points and now sits at 11 percent.
This is fabulous news for Edwards supporters. He's taken a ton of hits from the media and appeared to be sagging in poll numbers everywhere else.
But, in Iowa, he's getting stronger. That's remarkable stability and dedication amongst his supporters.
Clinton supporters can probably shrug their shoulders. As long as they're ahead of Obama, they really don't need to worry THAT much (unless Edwards picks up steam in New Hampshire).
Bill Richardson is slowly gathering steam in both New Hampshire and Iowa. He's going on the right direction.
It pains me to say this, but this is really horrible news for the Obama folks. They ran their first television advertising in the state, and lost 6 points. In fact, Obama is in 4th place amongst male voters. This despite Obama being from a neighboring state. And Iowa being a crucial state for his strategy.
Though she lost six points, Hillary could still be the big winner here. If Obama tanks in Iowa while Edwards tanks in New Hampshire, then she has no serious rival whatsoever.
