I am no pacifist. I am not even anti-war. As Markos has described, I am anti-this War. The Iraq War. (I am also opposed to any war against Iran at this point). I fully support the war in Afghanistan and despise Bush for not fully prosecuting it as he could have. I supported the Persian Gulf War. Indeed, the only war I opposed was Vietnam.
Now, does this mean I love war like the neocons? No. But as a realist, I recognize that military confrontation is sometimes necessary. Horrible for all involved, but necessary to defeat a greater evil. World War II and the Civil War were prime examples.
Now, I must assume that pacifists disagree. I must also assume that pacifists believe any participation in a war by the United States means that the United States thus started that war. For example, do pacifists believe that the United States started World War II? More to the point, do pacifists believe Democrats started World War II?
I ask that because it would seem that Cindy Sheehan believes that. Now, either she has become some whacked out conspiracy theorist that believes the Democrats bombed Pearl Harbor and made Germany invade Poland and France, or she believes that all war is evil and thus any participation by America in it makes America complicit in its evil.
So please help me.
