During this whole process there has been one candidate that I had been hoping would step in and run. A true Democrat who is not afraid to fight for what he believes in and is not afraid of the $5 million golden monster McConnell will unleash. That candidate was Greg Stumbo our current Attorney General. He has announced an exploratory committee for this race, and launched a website to promote it.l
I wanted to take a little time with this diary tonight to introduce some of you to Greg Stumbo. From his exploratory site on why he is considering a run:
In the 28 years I have been in public service, I have never witnessed so much dissatisfaction and frustration. I am both honored and humbled by the enormous outpouring of support and encouragement we have received from citizens all across the state and the nation. At this point in our assessment process, there is still much work and listening to be done. Please review our site and let us know what you think. We would appreciate it if you will please take the time to give us your contact information so that we can keep you posted with our findings and progress.

He also has a biography on the same site. I will include some of it here:
Greg has a long and distinguished record of public service for the people of Kentucky. In 1980, he was elected State Representative from Prestonsburg in Floyd County. Greg was subsequently elected to 11 terms as State Representative and served 24 years in the Kentucky Legislature. In 1985, Greg was elected House Majority Floor Leader and was the youngest person to hold that position in any state government. That would be the start of an unprecedented 10 terms as House Majority Floor Leader.
Greg has been praised as the chief defender of Kentucky's environment by the Lexington Herald-Leader. Greg is a member of the Environmental Crimes Work Group and is Vice Chair of the Environmental Committee of the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG). He also serves as Chair of the Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention Board.
He also speaks of where the values that were instilled in him came from:
Greg grew up in Floyd County in Eastern Kentucky along with three sisters. Greg's father, Harold, was a distinguished public servant, serving as both a District and Circuit Court judge in Floyd County. Greg's grandfather Wayne got his start mining coal in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky.
Greg's mother, Pluma, instilled in Greg the qualities of integrity, dedication and generosity.
When Greg was a freshman in high school, Greg attended KYA (Kentucky Youth Assembly), where he was elected Speaker of the House. This experience inspired him to run for public office. Greg graduated from the University of Kentucky and earned his law degree from the University of Louisville Law School.
Greg's parents and Grandparents always reminded him that no matter how much we are blessed, it is our duty as Christians to assist those who are not as fortunate as we are. He has carried this philosophy in to his career as a public servant, and true Democrat, and has never wavered in his resolve to leave the world a better place.

A recent Kentucky poll shows that even though he has yet to formally announce Stumbo already has a substantial amount of support, even more than popular Ben Chandler:

I have decided to support Greg Stumbo and try to encourage him to run against Mitch McConnell in 08. I think he has the right mix of name recognition, accomplishments, and fighting spirit to win this seat for the Democrats, and send the sneering face of Mitch McConnell back home. Please go to this website and contact Mr. Stumbo and encourage him to run. Please also consider supporting him in that run. Here is the link to the Exploratory site:
