This was not one bit lost on John Edwards. In a press release today, John Edwards blasts the Bush Administration, which has shown that the welfare and health of even children cannot take precedence over their greed:
"In a stunning late-evening order, the Bush Administration made it abundantly clear that the health and welfare of uninsured children is of little concern to President Bush. The Bush order continues an ideological crusade against the SCHIP that will only benefit private insurance companies, while further punishing countless numbers of uninsured families in America. Sadly, this is a new low -- even for this president.
A new low -- even for this president. I could not say it better. The Worst President Ever can add fighting for huge insurance over the smallest among us. The so-called Christian values that Bush subscribes to doesn't include the main priority of Christ, protection of our children. Why should Bush protect children and their families when Big Insurance profits are at stake. I am glad that Christ has not a grave to roll over in.
Edwards goes on to describe some of the effects of this order:
"The practical effect of this order is clear: States like New Hampshire, Missouri and Minnesota will have to take away insurance from tens of thousands of children from moderate-income families. Roughly 20 states will be forced to impose a 12-month waiting period before any children without health insurance can enroll. That's a death sentence for uninsured kids with leukemia and other diseases -- chemotherapy isn't available in the emergency room. Apparently 18,000 Americans already dying each year because they don't have health insurance just isn't enough for the Bush Administration.
Now we have come to expect this kind of behavior from the least patriotic and most greedy among us, but this is just mind-blowing. Profits are more important than children with leukemia and other serious diseases that the treatments aren't readily available for? These aren't lazy people trying to drain government funds, they are CHILDREN!!!!!! The most defenseless and innocent among us!!! And yet this Administration and their rabid, lunatic base who want to decry their "Christian" values turn a blind eye to sick children, and 18,000 people who die yearly for the greed of this Administration and the disgraceful profits of big insurance!!! As I have said before the only God these "Christians" worship is the very one Jesus tried to warn us of, MAMMON!!!!!
Edwards ends his press release with a call to action, and a solemn promise:
"When Congress returns from recess, Democrats and responsible Republicans must come together to override this disastrous order and expand the children's health insurance program to serve millions more children. More importantly, it is clearer now than ever that the time has come for bold and transformational health care reform. As president, I will never allow the private insurance industry or its lobbyists to get in the way of providing health care to children or having true universal health care reform."

I agree with John Edwards. While this Congress has been a huge disappointment, they could make up a lot of ground with me by fighting on this!!! John Edwards shouldn't have to call on them to do this, but they should do it naturally. I beg any Republican who is a true Christian to stand up and fight for what Christ would, OUR CHILDREN!!! Their is no more Christian value than fighting for the least defenseable among us. If this Congress will not act upon that, then I give up on them!!!!
I wrote a diary yesterday in which I got many responses that Edwards should be attacking Republicans and not pressing Obama on the lobbyist issue, but here we have the results of what comes from not fighting these people. It is time the insurance lobby doesn't get to write our healthcare laws!!!
It is disgraceful that we can throw away over a trillion big ones on Bush's failed vision for a new Middle-East that was based on lies and ignorance to begin with, and we can't give one red penney for our own Children?!!? Even children who suffer with diseases like leukemia?!!!? I am ashamed that the America I love has come to this.
Democrats, this is exactly why we need a President Edwards. He has a proven track record of fighting corporations and insurance companies that don't even consider CHILDREN more sacred than their beloved bottom line. Please join me in supporting a candidate who cares about these things and is determined to fight for the least represented among us. Nothing is more important than this, the very soul of our nation is at stake.
