Now, on to what has taken precedence for me as the issue of the day. I deliver in a red state and drive a lot. I listen to the right wing radio that dominates in this area to keep the fires burning. You know, keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.
Today, in between the musings of Oxycontin addicted, Viagara needing to be a man Rush Limbaugh, and the two disgraces to the shamrock Sean Hannity, and Bill O'Reilly I constantly heard a group advertising called FreedomsWatch.com. They were telling how this surge is working and encouraging people to call Congress and tell them to issue more blank checks on Iraq. They were telling how people like us who have a realistic view of what happened and is happening were for defeat. They urged people to tell Congress they should stand for "Victory".
These commercials ran ceaselessly. They featured some veterans and family members of veterans talking. You could tell some group was paying a lot of money to pound this message home. When I got home, I took the liberty of finding this site. Here is the link:

While I respect the Veterans in the ad, and sympathise with anyone who has died or lost a loved one in this needless war which was based on lies, this war that didn't truly fight against the entity they have claimed attacked us, and this war which has been mismanaged from day 1, I think that is just why we should leave. These people claiming this "victory" fail to take into account that the very minute our leadership in the White House and Congress decided to divert funds from the real war on al-Queda in Afganistan and abandon the hunt for our attacker, Osama bin Laden, we already gave up any hope of true victory.
That is why most of us in the Edwards camp believe the "War on Terror" was a gimmick, and a propoganda ploy, because we failed to fight the foe that attacked us to the end. Bush and his neo-con cronies surrendered like the chickenhawks they are to Osama bin Laden and his ilk. The "War on Terror" and the "War in Iraq" became synonomous. Anyone who questioned the "War in Iraq" became a coward, and a closet communist. We needed our communications monitored to protect the nation from us......
With this sorry chapter in the history of the world, what keeps these people holding on to this failed, flawed strategy, this misguided attempt to reshape the middle east that our President made his calling card, and now has blown up in his face? I am sorry Mr. Bush but to me and millions of Americans, your legacy isn't worth the lives of these young people. They keep holding out because they know a Gen. is giving a White House written or at least "proofread" report that is going to tell the American people just how successful this surge has been. If we leave now, they will claim, we are bringing about a defeat that was already dealt by horrible, lunatic, incompetent, stubborn neo-con idiots who won't realize the world doesn't want the 1400s back. How successful is this surge really? Lets look at a couple of stories today:
http://www.comcast.net/...
14 soldiers that should not have been there in the first place, and 14 grieving families and unnamed friends who have seen a life cut short in its prime and will forever face an aching void.
To add insult to injury on the same day American learn that these 14 and all the others who have died have never had, and up until this day still don't have the proper equipment to do the job or horrible, incompetent, stubborn neo-con lunatics that run the White House should have supplied from day 1. That I should call "Respecting the troops":

Since I am an Edwards fan, I will sneak in a little of his views on this surge, which I completely agree with:
President Bush's failed strategy has led to increased terrorism in Iraq, as we saw with the bombing of the Iraqi Parliament months ago in the Green Zone and the recent horrendous bombings in northwest Iraq that killed over 250 people. And despite the surge, the Al-Maliki government is disintegrating before our eyes. Even worse, President Bush's mistakes in Iraq have only helped make terrorism worse in the world. As the National Intelligence Estimate recently found, Al Qaeda is as strong now as it was before 9/11.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
So now, we know that the Iraq Report coming next month is already betrayed. We have right wing loudmouths on the radio telling us that the surge has been a success. They know that the White House is writing this report. They are putting veterans and the families of veterans in their ads to try and further cow our Congress, which is already afraid to do the right thing.
While I respect any person who has served in war, and sympathise completely with anyone who has lost a loved one to this current administration's policies I say they are the true victims whether they realize it or not. The soldiers gave their lives bravely, and the families lost their loved ones needlessly. I definately am not going to attack someone who has already been victimized by these maniacal neo-cons and their failed vision.
What I am calling for, since we know this group is running these ads to try and cow Congress is yet another huge letter writing, calling, and email sending campaign to our Congress, that NO, we don't believe the surge is working, and YES we do believe this is a failed strategy, and HELL NO we won't accept dragging this war out forever wasting young American lives and hundreds of billions of more dollars that could be used on things like SCHIP, which this "War President" has declared war on also. I know many of you like myself have written your fingers to the bone and stretched your vocal cords to the breaking on this issue, but we must do it once again. We can't let the right-wingers who would have endless war in Iraq and issue blank checks for hundreds of billions of dollars outvoice us in Washington on this. We are right, and we are in the majority!!!!
Best wishes fellow Democrats!!!
