we wouldn't call you racists, but, when Bill Bennett makes the kind of remarks he made this past week, then all of us are reminded that the appeal of the GOP to a lot of white voters is its position on race. That position is that blacks just aren't equal to whites, no matter what they do, or who they are.
If Bill Bennett can say what he did, then what does that tell you about the mind-set of the GOP's leadership? This guy was hailed as some sort of intellectual prophet. He was made Secretary of Education. He lectured Democrats on morals, scolding us for supporting Clinton.
First it turned out that he was a complusive gambler. Now it turns out that he is a racist, or, at the very least, doesn't mind making statements that appear racist.
So, to all those Republicans who complain that Democrats play, the race card, here is a suggestion: Quit acting like racists.
