Of course I am talking about the Webb Amendment, which the Senate struck down which would have shown real support for our troops by ensuring that they got to spend as much time at home with their families than they spent fighting for the failed neo-con vision of Bush and McConnell. Not only did McConnell snub his nose at our enlisted men and women, but he did so gleefully. Look at his response to the disgraceful defeat of the Webb Amendment in the Senate:
"All of us agree that our forces must be rested, trained and equipped, which is why this underlying bill continues the expansion of the nation’s Army Corps and Marine Corps. However, to tie the hands of our military commanders to deploy forces is a dangerous precedent."

If we all "agree" that our troops deserve the respect of being rested trained and equipped, why did McConnell vote against and lead the defeat of this bill which ensures just that? You can't have it both ways Mitchy boy!!
What Mitch McConnell fails to tell Americans and the voters of Kentucky is that when he rubber-stamped without question the failed policies of President Bush he ensured that our troops went into Iraq without the proper training, and equipment to do their jobs. He failed to insist on the White House going into Iraq with a real plan for the peace, and for eventually coming home. His and the Bush Administration's failed policies ensured that our military commander's hands would be tied because they had not the equipment or plans to be successful.
What is the most disgraceful and hypocritical part is that Mitch McConnell cannot fight for our troops or their leaders to recieve the training, equipment, planning, and home time to be successful, but he can find time to fight for a bill that condemns American citizens from using their freedom of speech to question the course in Iraq. A bill that does not one thing to solve any of the problems created by McConnell and the Bush Administration in Iraq, and does nothing to confront the problems of our troops there:
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell delivered the following remarks on the Senate floor Thursday regarding the Cornyn Amendment condemning the MoveOn.org ad and calling on the Senate to support General Petraeus:
"It’s been more than a week since the Junior Senator from Texas offered an amendment condemning an ad by MoveOn.Org that appeared last Monday in The New York Times.
"The ad was, by any standard, abhorrent.
"Now here's what we know about this group, and I'll bet you a lot of our Democratic colleagues don't really know everything MoveOn is for. I think you probably know they try to come to your aid from time to time, but I bet you don't really know everything they advocate.
http://mcconnell.senate.gov/...
No matter what you think of the ad, MoveOn.org as American citizens have every right to their first amendment rights. We all knew what the Patraeus report was going to say because the right-wing media was already talking about it weeks before. Why aren't we attacking them for leaking his report early?
It seems Mitch McConnell supports generals who give favorable reports for Bush, but when it comes to supporting the average soldier on the ground who sacrifices the most, his speaking out against raising their pay and ensuring them fair hometime show that his priorities lie with brownnosing Bush first and foremost over anything.
Here in Kentucky we can do better. As many of you know I am supporting Greg Stumbo, Kentucky's Attorney General to run against Mitch McConnell and defeat him in 08. Although he hasn't officially announced yet, I hope he will soon. Check out this new video of him being interviewed by Jim Pence of Hillbillyreport.com and DitchMitchKy:
Pence's blog is a great place to catch up on Kentucky's political scene with a dose of hillbilly humor!! Check it out here:
