Not Policy alone

When thinking about presidential candidates I consider many factors, including their policy positions. I am not even certain policy positions are the most important issue. Among democrats I argue their policy positions are close enough other factors are more important.

Of the candidates running, I like Kucinich's policy positions best; yet I do not think he would make the best president of all the candidates. I believe Barack Obama would make the best president, because he is young, charismatic, and delivers speeches in such a way that people come together behind the concepts that form the basis of the speeches.

At this point in the election cycle I support several different candidates many different reasons. For example, part of my support for Barack Obama is that he is a black man. I believe that a black president would help change the attitudes of white people in Jena who considered the nooses nothing more than a prank. If not the people themselves then their children. I support Hillary Clinton in part because she is a woman. While she might not shatter the glass ceiling for women, she would no doubt add a few cracks to that ceiling. I support Bill Richardson in part because of his experience. He has held many different jobs, all of them with successfully. I cannot imagine a person with a better Job resume for president than Bill Richardson. I support John Edwards in part because he has taken a populist tack in his run for office.

My ideal ticket would be Obama / Richardson – inspiration married with experience. Don't get me wrong; I agree the most with Kucinich's policies. But, I think Barack and Bill would best for the nation.
