I know that not many of us (myself included) are feeling very charitable towards the Clintons and their myriad, quasi-celebrity supporters.
But I submit that it is our job, as denizens of a blog that elects Democrats, to do our part to take care of our own and preserve our chances of creating enhanced party unity.
Specifically, to pay off her vendors and others, and NOT HER PERSONAL LOANS.
I believe that this is an effective compromise. I think it is unreasonable for Barack to expect us to be totally fine with his unilateral donation of our money for his primary campaign to go towards funding Senator Clintons largely irresponsible campaign debts. And the fact that she took out such large personal loans should not likely be something that the netroots fundraising apparatus should be responsible for.
Nevertheless, the time after this primary is a time for gestures not of peace, love and understanding, but pragmatic cooperation and reasonable compromise. We have a serious election to attend to, perhaps the most serious in decades.
I, for one, would help Senator Obama raise money ON THE SIDE in order to help pay down Senator Clinton's debts and promote party unity. If he were to give me a choice in the matter, it would be a choice I would readily accept.
So when this happens, I want to see this community fundraising amongst your Clinton-supporting friends and your Obama supporting friends in order to put the unprecedented nastiness of this primary behind us. I know that it isn't easy right now to do so, but I think in time this will feed into my aforementioned spirit of cooperation and reasonable compromise
