So how does this conference ad begin?
Dear PUMAs,
The 2008 PUMA Conference Committee is ready to ROAR with this incredible conference deal! For the amazing price of $250, you will receive the following:
• Lodging at a FIVE STAR hotel – the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C. for THREE nights (Thursday, Friday and Saturday)
• Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday.
• Lunch on Saturday.
• AND it also includes the price of the conference itself.
Note the bolded text. A five star hotel for three nights for $250? Really? Inquiring minds wanted to know. So I went looking.
TripAdvisor rates this as a three-star hotel.
The Mobil Travel Guide rates it as a three-star hotel.
Travelocity lists this as a three-star hotel, with traveler reviews showing a 3 1/2 rating.
The more I looked, the more I found the same thing. Three-star, with occasional sites rating it 3 1/2 stars. But a Five-star hotel? Not so much.
What does this show? Only that the PUMA leadership is willing to deceive... which we knew, but others may not. Having it here may not be worth much, but if someone actually has logins on the various PUMA blogs pushing the conference, you could put this out there (politely) in such a way as to help the confused start to understand what the leadership of the movement is capable of.
NOTE: I also consider it quite amusing that the conference will refund monies if the membership does not reach the 250 member level. Just 250 people.... think the conference will actually happen?
