The selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate is no mistake. It is not a ploy to attract the disappointed Clinton supporters nor a spur of the moment decision by a "maverick." Sarah Palin is being set up and used by the Republicans. She is a damsel who doesn't even know she is in distress and we are playing right into the master plan. Much of the press may be trashing her, but this is no PR nightmare. This is all part of the carefully crafted shit storm they are creating in order to steal the White House for another 4 years.
When McCain named Palin as his VP pick the world let out a collective, 'What the fuck?!" Once we all figured out how to pronounce her name we started investigating who this woman is and found absolutely nothing that would qualify her for the vice presidency. So the theories started pouring forth from the punditry as everyone scrambled to explain the seemingly disastrous decision. Here is where we made our mistake.
Anyone who is paying attention knows the Republicans are masters at manipulating the propaganda and spinning the message and YouTube isn't going to stop them. We all know who is really running the show around here. Dick Cheney has stacked the deck at the DOJ, the Supreme Court, Congress and the media. Does anyone believe he doesn't have his fist around this campaign as well? He is not going to just happily cede all the power he has worked so hard to amass over the years to the PTA mom from Alaska. Not a chance. Even with much progress in the area of equality at work, many women still struggle to hold their ground and command respect from their male counterparts. Especially very powerful male counterparts. There is no way the good 'ol boys leading the GOP suddenly woke up with the radical notion that women are their equals and deserve a spot on the ticket. Especially not an embarrassingly under-qualified woman.
Think about what a day in Sarah Palin's life must look like. How many mothers who have even one child have many opportunities to sit and watch the news without being interrupted? I don't think my mother sat down once in two decades while she was raising me and my brothers. On top of raising a family that includes the stresses of a son leaving for war, a pregnant teenage daughter and caring for a special needs infant she also has a very demanding career. Much has been made of her inexperience but she is the governor of an American state. She is responsible for a 10 billion dollar budget and I doubt she's perusing the blogs in her office each day. In addition to her assuredly busy lifestyle she is also an evangelical so it's possible she doesn't even have cable TV in her home. All these factors make for one very uninformed woman, naive to the realities faced by her fellow Americans on the mainland, not to mention the rest of the world. Nobody, I don't care how out of touch they are, would seriously nominate a woman so painfully underprepared to deal with the 24 hour media beast. There is no way this woman is equipped to deal with what the media will do to an easy target like her. No one makes a mistake like that, especially not the GOP propaganda pros. There has to be an explanation for placing her in this position and that is why I believe this was done on purpose.
The precious few liberal voices in the mainstream news media are busy digging up every scrap of dirt on this woman and attacking her on everything from her thin resume to her parenting skills to how she earned her high school nickname. In the mean time the late night comedians are eating her up with a spoon and it's only a matter of time before we see Tina Fey back on SNL to play the beauty queen in the White House. From the moose hunting to the PTA, there is nothing about her life that isn't hilarious. But tearing her to pieces is exactly what they want us to do.
Sarah Palin is the perfect distraction. There are two kinds of people who vote republican: rich white people and naive evangelicals. She completes the ticket and unifies the base. And as she's trashed by Randy Rhodes and mocked by Steven Colbert the conservative talking heads howl about the sexism and disrespect of the "liberal media." The more we pick her apart, the more we look like bullies. The more we bully her the more the conservative base will feel sorry for her and come to her rescue in the form of votes. The more we put ourselves in the position to be vilified the more we hinder Obama and Biden to go after her on legitimate issues without looking like complete assholes.
THIS IS A PUPPET SHOW!!! Here we are gawking at the spectacle rather than looking for the men pulling the strings behind the curtain. It does no good to expose the dummy on stage as a fake and ignore the masters who are really in control. Of course they didn't vet this woman, they wanted us to be busy doing it for them. They have us all digging through public records in Alaska with our eyes and ears turned as far away from Washington as we can possibly get.
Just last month we were all discussing the mounting evidence that the Bush administration provoked a war in Georgia in order to benefit John McCain. We are dealing with people who will do absolutely anything, at any cost, to stay in power. If human life is worth nothing to them, there would be no hesitation at sacrificing Sarah Palin to the media monster. Where is Condoleezza right now? What is Karl Rove up to? Who has Cheney been talking to? John McCain didn't pick Sarah Palin, who did? Who is really running this campaign? What are they planning next? These are the questions we need to be investigating, not who Sarah Palin fired during her career or how she feels about the bridge to nowhere. If she does get into office there isn't a chance in hell they are going to allow her to make an actual decision, so who is going to be making them? We need to redirect our attention back to the real bad guys here. Sarah Palin may be a willing participant and that prevents me from defending her too much, but the truth is she is almost just as much a victim of the heartless and criminal characters who have brought us to the position we all find ourselves in today.
There is an October surprise brewing. Make no mistake. These people will stop at nothing to retain their power and wealth. They haven't come this far just to quietly retire. If we all keep our focus on the joke that is Sarah Palin we are going to be laughing the day away with smug confidence while the real stories are buried, Bush nudges Israel to attack Iran and Karl Rove's minions rig the voting machines and cut the power at predominately black voting locations.
It's been a fun week, I admit. But it's time to get back to work here. This Palin nomination isn't real! It's a distraction away from what they are really doing. We have to stop laughing at this poor woman or we're gonna be crying when they take this election away from us.
