Taking nothing from the community organizers whom I admire, and acknowledge their service is invaluable, so are all volunteers. Making fun of either organizers or volunteers, pisses me off. Big time. Aren’t we all in this together?
This is a nation of volunteers in every community, small town and bustling big city across America. Girl Scout leaders, volunteer fire fighters, business community mentors, League of Women Voter volunteers, PTA members, meal delivery volunteers providing food for the housebound elderly, volunteers in homeless shelters, classroom volunteers in our schools, volunteers working in food banks, Pink Ladies visiting the sick in hospitals, Boy Scout leaders, church outreach volunteers, to name a few.
I don’t know about you, but when those smug bastards curl back their lips and mock community organizers, I feel the slap across my face, as a community volunteer. Volunteering isn’t a dirty word. It is a vital institution in America, particularly when budgets are slashed and cities are decimated by the very policies of those making fun of the very people who are trying to fill the gap that the republicans have dumped on us. Volunteers and community organizers are working harder than ever to help fill the ever increasing void left in our communities.
I think there two questions here: what’s wrong with showing compassion and helping those that need help? And why isn’t that crowd volunteering? Maybe it’s because that nasty crowd evidently doesn’t encounter or value volunteers in their daily lives.
Am I the only one upset...
