AP Gives Sarah Palin Credit for "Killing" Bridge to Nowhere

An AP story up right now on CNN:

The bridge project became the symbol of federal largess, and Congress eventually dropped the earmark for the bridge.

The state still received the money, but last fall, Gov. Sarah Palin killed the project, valued at nearly $400 million.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH...(head explodes).

To remind everyone of the truth, Sarah Palin endorsed the Bridge, and only opposed it after it became a laughing stock, and even then STILL was supportive of the project, saying:

Much of the public's attitude toward Alaska bridges is based on inaccurate portrayals of the projects here, but we need to focus on what we can do, rather than fight over what has happened.

This shows the need to win the media war that the Republicans have become so good at fighting. In an era of media promoting "balance" over, say, "truth," the media will always eventually promote untruths and stretches (or as we call it here, lies) from one side if they repeat it long enough. We should start saying that Obama has a purple heart, because even though it is not true if we can get enough people to say it with a straight face, the AP will one day acknowledge our "point of view."

The only way to get the AP to tell the truth is to give 'em hell when they don't. We are getting better at this (in part because of places like Daily Kos), but are still miles away from the Republicans. I think the key is that Republicans have people ("strategists," "analysis," etc.) who are willing to go on TV and make no sense at all in order to repeat certain talking points...remember this? Chris Rock had an old routine, about how women with fights with their boyfriends because the boyfriends are constrained by their need to make sense. This applies to Dems and Repubs. When a Republican (up to and including McCain himself) goes on TV and says "the fact is Sarah Palin opposed the Bridge to Nowhere" even after having just seen video of her supporting it...they might look stupid, but it reaches the good folks at the AP.
