What can the Edwards campaign do about this perception problem? Well, there may be no better use of purchased TV air time than to present segments showing John as a "real person", in quiet discussions of the issues (or any aspect of life) with just a few people, where he feels relaxed and maybe even humble and reflective. It's the kind of presentation that is necessary in order to counter the effect [on skeptical Democrats] of sound/image bites presented by MSM that show only John's 'attacks' on Hillary Clinton. Testamonials offered by 'average citizens' (or even famous ones) would be helpful if they communicated the idea that they could not only see the sincerity in his face, they could actually feel it. Average citizens need to feel as though they could never feel threated by this man.
I doubt very seriously that his campaign would suffer if they were to focus at least 60% of their attention on making sure the voters know that John Edwards is the kind of person they really want to have in the White House. Imagine John Edwards in the White House, setting an example for wealthy Americans everywhere, showing them that there is one thing better than being rich, and that is being rich and dedicating your life to helping those who are less fortunate than you. That kind of behavior needs to be modeled in order for it to catch on. JE's good looks can only help in this regard.
WE NEED A RICH GUY IN THE WHITE HOUSE WHO IS MOTIVATED IN THE SAME WAY THAT JOHN EDWARDS IS. We need that kind of example placed before our nation's upper elite. It's the kind of thing that could help the Democratic Party more than anything else possibly could, providing long-lasting benefits. If rich people begin to identify with the Democratic Party because John Edwards showed them how to do it, then we will be the majority party for a couple of generations. The Republican Party has long pandered to the most cynical instincts of the rich, and has held a financial advantage over the Dems as a result. That advantage could be erased, and even reversed, if John Edwards shows them a different way.
Could Hillary or Barack do the same thing? I don't think so. What do you think?
Sorry for wandering...
