It was a good case John made. It spoke to me. I think he's right on the issues. Far more Americans are killed by our corrupt corporate overlords than have ever been killed by terrorists. And they are making things worse by the week.
But after 6 years of pulling America's coat, the public has not gotten it. And it's plain they are not going to get it. This jury has come in and it isn't good news for John.
Edwards is getting single digits in the Nevada cauci or caucuses. The polls say he won't do much better in South Carolina. A tipping point has been reached, and my political intuition tells me it is all downhill from here.
He was my candidate, and he couldn't sell my fellow Democrats. Why? Well, most likely because they are all a bunch of bastard people! And I hate them! Or maybe it was the media. But he had six years to make his case. That's a long time.
So, should I continue to support him? That's not me. I'm not going to end up like a Ron Paul supporter.
I think there are important differences between Obama and Clinton. I have arguments both for and against both. Vehement arguments. I go one way and the other from day to day. But I am going to choose, because I want to have a say in who ends up as the nominee.
And to have that say, I have to choose between the two who still have a chance. Sending a message is not my goal. Giving my vote to John Edwards to use at the convention is not my style. Sure, I trust him, but not with my vote. After all, I've never even met the guy. And it's MY vote, not his.
This is something I have to do for myself.
Two things in life I would never turn over to anyone - my vote, and my judgment about who I should kill and who to let live. So far my judgment about that is nobody. But it could change. Just saying. Flame away.
The choice is not simple. I invite all other Edwards supporters to join me in the reality based community and start making that tough choice.
By the way. Thanks to John Edwards for making a good fight and raising the right issues. I'd rather not have to pick between these other two flawed candidates, but it's time to start.
