There is a great injustice going on right here in my beloved home state. I don't see the need for me to recount the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina that flooded New Orleans and destroyed the coast of Mississippi. All of you are aware of the absolute devastion that occured just south from where I write this diary. Sometimes we feel forgotten down here, with all of the attention going to the humanitarian crisis that evolved in New Orleans. It gets lost in the story that the coast of Mississippi was wiped away, whole communites at a a time. If you lsiten to the news narrative, poor folks in Mississippi were better off than Louisiana because of our strong Republican governor Haley Barbour. Good Ole K Street Haley.
The boys at Cottomouth run a fine blog on Mississippi politics and did a fine story on this alreay here.
According an article on MSNBC, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson approved Barbour's plan to divert $600 million in grants to a port devlopment that would include casino and resort facilities. Just let that set in for a minute and get back with me.
In a mirror image of the White House, Haley decides to stick it to the needy so his blood sucking buddies can make a bundle. I am sure all the greedy fat-cats who get the contracts for the port project will laugh it up at the expense of those who have already suffered so much.
How can they do this and get away with it? Don't stick your nose up at Mississippi. There is a DIRECT corelation between the education level here and the strength of the GOP. What it is like here in MS with the poverty and ignorance is the GOP vision for America, while Haley, W, and the boys light another cigar.
