I hoped John Edwards would be the nominee of our party for the Presidency.
Some of you know me, and some of you may not. I am Barry Welsh and I am running for Congress for a second time
Against Mike Pence in Indiana’s 6th District.
I will support and work for whom ever our nominee is, but I wanted John Edwards to be our nominee because our messages were so similar.
Please take 2:34 seconds to watch this and then see if you don’t agree with me that we share a very similar message. Video.

Our campaign is going to continue to stand up for the citizens. We are going to continue shouting about independence from Oil. We are going to continue to call for health care, not just health insurance, for all. We are going to continue to fight for human, and individual rights. I have been and will continue to be a voice for those that do not have a voice.
I really relate to John and Elizabeth Edwards. My wife Sherri and I could relate to what they were putting themselves through although they are on a much larger stage and a greater scale. Sherri started calling me Indiana’s Bobby Kennedy after watching the film Bobby, and because of our fight to bring the troops home from Iraq, but that's not close to the truth, I like to think that we are the Indiana John and Elizabeth Edwards leading the progressive fight in our state.
I am asking all of you that are Edwards supporters to consider supporting our effort in Congress. Here are five reasons why this makes sense and you should act:
- We raised the democratic vote from 28% in 2004 to 40% in 2006 and have voter trust and name recognition with the voters in the district.
- We only spent $45,000 total in 2006 to get to 40% so we know how to stretch a dollar and we have great return on investment potential in 2008.
- We have to elect people that are not corporate sponsored and this is a prime campaign to do so.
- Phil Sharp and Lee Hamilton were from this area before redistricting, so Democrats can and have won in this district.
- Every candidate has to fund the campaign somehow and I don’t want to be accountable to any special interest or corporations. Every federal seat is important because every federal decision impacts every American. This is an opportunity for you to make a significant difference in a campaign and see visible results.
We will get more Democratic Votes in this District than Republican votes in the May primary and that will set the stage leading to November and our victory.
I am asking for 1000 of you to donate 100 dollars. This funds our entire campaign and means that everything else that comes in over the next ten months will go toward extra paid media in the general election.
If 1000 of you donate 100 dollars over the next 24 hours, it will draw free media attention to us in this district, and give us the security and the boost to move forward to a victory in 2008. A victory that you can say you played a major part in, because you will be playing a huge part.
Take your frustration from today’s announcement and turn it into a positive. Adopt our campaign and our district for the next 24 hours and keep the message alive. Forward this on, email it to your lists, together we can and will make a difference.
The Edwards effort on the Internet was fueled by you. You reading this made it possible for Edwards to battle and do what he did. What you have done over these months has been remarkable.
I have seen what you have done for John Edwards and I am asking you to do the same for our effort from now until Super Tuesday.
I was a pastor of a small church for the past ten years and helped many that would not have otherwise had any, and we did it through our food pantry and other outreach, and we did it without requiring anyone to listen to or read anything they didn't want to. No religious strings attached.
I was a pastor to help people. I am running for Congress to be in position to try to help so many more and they are out there and need our help.
Please help us to help everyone.
Thank you for all that you have done, and for your consideration.
Barry Welsh
2008 Indiana 6th District democratic Congressional Candidate
