Any VP candidate really should do a press conference. Any individual aspiring to be next in line for President of the United States really, really ought to do a press conference when found to have violated ethics law.
If you haven't had a chance, you might want to read through the Anchorage Daily News article which contains both the transcript and audio of the 10/12/08 telephone interview Palin did.
It is pretty clear why she won't do any press conferences.
She answers questions in such a reality-free way it is ridiculous.
Beyond that, she still is unable to string together coherent sentences when answering serious questions, even when speaking to local press over the telephone..
For instance take this whopper--if you can sort through her gibberish--about how she and McCain are taking the "high road."
But no, in John McCain’s mission here, in taking the high road, as you’re going to see too with a lot of unfair shots he has taken in this campaign with some of his opponents’ supporters, McCain and I taking the high road, being positive.
And there's another one about how describing Walter Monegan as "rogue" is not negative (again, gibberish alert):
And remember I fought very hard to increase funding for state troopers so that we could fill positions there and goals not being met that included not being able to recruit and retain all the state troopers that I wanted to best serve Alaska. That could be characterized I think as a cabinet member who – it’s not a negative term I think -- being rogue in terms of not meeting those goals.
If reporters don't demand she answer some serious questions, with follow-ups, about her ethical violation charge, they have no moral standing to report anything about her.
