On the other hand, the literal definition seems to work fine. McCain has been changing course almost daily. McCain and Palin not only appear not to be on the same page, but some wonder if it's even the same book.
Also, erratic also suggests that mcCain is out of touch, eccentric. it almost suggests that he'll occasionally say something that is a bit out of bounds or clearly a lie.
Of course, McCain still appears the more stable member of the ticket. Sarah Palin is outrightly lying as to what a published report says. Has anyone asked McCain to comment on Troopergate? I haven't seen it yet, but I can't imagine he'll really contradict the report at this point. then again, I can't imagine any way around it. If McCain goes along with Palin, Obama will nail him for it. I'm hoping Obama keeps a copy of the first page in his jacket, as McCain loves a good prop.
Arguing that a sentence says the opposite of what it says might make you look a bit erratic. If McCain were to say that the report said Palin violated the law, he'd be calling his VP candidate a liar on the record. And from the perspective of his own campaign, that might be a tad erratic.
Offering a mortgage program that simply rewards banks for their bad behavior, while talking about not rewarding wall st. is contradictory. One might even say erratic.
So, I'm sure I'll hear it again, but John McCain, his campaign and his policies have been erratic since the VP nomination. And in no way do I think that is a statement on age.
