Up until now, McCain has adamantly refused to play the Jeremiah Wright card. But now in light of all the polls and the trend lines they reflect, the pressure is mounting from within his own campaign to finally play that hold card. He has let Palin dance around the issue with her none-too-subtle references to Obama's "otherness" and not being like the rest of America as if the rest America consists solely of white folks. And his campaign has given carte blanche to every wingnut racist surrogate to make even more direct comments. The radical right-wingers have been on fire all over the Web with overt racist rant and hatred.
My feeling is that Palin will let it rip. Remember Sarah Palin's words to Rush Limbaugh: "I have nothing to lose." She means that. She's either too dumb or too cynical to either realize or better yet care what the results would be should the race factor be employed for all its worth. Nor does she realize that the only people out there who are going to eat it up with a spoon are of the same ilk as those dangerous fanatics who shout their hatred at her rallies. She's preaching to the choir.
As far as Palin is concerned, she's got nothing to look forward to but the long dark cold winter in Alaska with her dysfunctional extended family. All this talk about her being a possible Republican candidate for the presidency in 2012 is just that, talk. Odds are she won't even get re-elected governor if she runs again. She's an historical political footnote.
And if she does play the race card, whatever is left of McCain's shredded "reputation" will be consigned to the dustbin of political failures. Game, set, and match.
