There seems to some conventional wisdom in the blogosphere that Joe Biden should just ignore Sarah Palin tonight. I say that's a losing strategy.

Joe Biden is a smart enough politician that he can engage her, and trip her up without looking like a bully. With her performances so far, I don't think she's going to be a shrinking violet. She's going to come out swinging.

How's it going to look if she lays hit after hit on him without him responding. Isn't that going to be the "bitchslap theory" of politics at work? He should treat her like any other politician, and not fall into the trap of looking weak.

I'm also of the opinion that a single eyeroll or condescending look isn't going to turn the election around. I wouldn't encourage him to do it, but I don't think it's the end of the world. His approval ratings are much better than hers. If she says something patently ridiculous he'd be inhuman not to have a reaction.

I don't think America is going to blame him for that. Do you?
