All this week various pundits and talking heads have been making veiled references to the fact that Sarah Palin seems to be very subtly undermining McCain's last gasp efforts to win the election. Hell hath no fury, etc, etc. and some of that repressed fury bubbled up during the interview she and McCain had with Brian Williams on NBC Nightly News. It was so palpable that Chuck Todd, NBC's in-house political guru, analyzing the interview highlighted the tension between the two running mates.
And in that interview, Palin's inherent aggressiveness was on full display. She jumped in to answer William's questions and even cut off McCain in mid-answer to interject her opinion. I think if the interview had gone on for another fifteen minutes we would have seen McCain throttling her on live TV. And then there was the additional controversy, in a week filled to the brim with controversy about Palin, over the Obama "palling around with terrorists" line. Some one leaked the story that she winged that line all on here own causing one of McCain's top advisers to call that story "bullshit".
What is most obvious as the McCain/Palin campaign slowly circles the bowl, is that sweetness and light Sarah isn't going quietly into that good night. Of all the criticisms leveled against her since the day McCain chose her as his running mate, her strongest asset has never been in question...her ambition. Couple that with her innate cunning and ability to dissemble and you have the makings of the newest star in the Republican constellation. As hard as it may seem to believe right now, with her negatives soaring and her being blamed directly for McCain's fall, there are those in her party who have begun to sketch out the plans for her re-education and re-packaging in time for the 2012 presidential election.
