On last night's Larry King interview. Michelle Obama was asked about being up in the polls. She said something very profound. "We are going to run through the tape". For those of you who don't know what that means, it's a track and field reference meaning to finish the race and not pull a Usain Bolt who started celebrating with about ten meters to go in the 100 meter final in Beijing.
Why this is important as she goes on to say is that, and I'm paraphasing here, we not only want Barack to win but we want to encourage people in the future to be involved in politics going forward, not just in this election.
I believe this is important as well but I also think that we want to give Barack a mandate, a clear majority to let the other side know that this is a new time, a time for new policies, an inclusive time not an exclusive one. More after the jump.
I live in the Los Angeles area and I've heard many people say, "well Barack's gonna win California anyway so what's the difference". This is the wrong attitude. Barack and the democrats down the line need all of our support now more than ever! As the other side becomes more and more desparate and resorts to more smears and outright lies, we need to not only redouble our efforts to get Barack elected but we need to send a clear message to future republicans that these types of tactics WILL NOT WORK. So, my west coast friends, don't believe the media, even on election day when they tell you that the election is over and that Barack has clinched with Colorado or Missouri(remember in 2000 they called Florida for Gore before putting it back in the undecided column). Go out and vote anyway let your voice be heard!
