Gov. Ted Strickland and Mayor Michael Coleman told the crowd that this is the largest political rally ever in Columbus. Perhaps Ohio as well. There are not a lot of open speaces in Downtown Columbus to hold such a large rally, so there are a lot of obstructed views outside the State House area. Streets for most of Downtown Columbus were closed to accomodate the huge crowds. I've never seen as this large of a crowd in Downtown Columbus, with the line to get into the State House area about a mile long. Some I talked to were there at early at 8:00 am, waiting to get in at 11:00 Most are joyous and excited to take part in history. Many came to tears as he spoke. It is very rare that a politician can inspire so much excitment and draw the number of people as Obama has.
Quite a contrast to McCain's rally at Nationwide Arena the previous day, where he drew a half full crowd of 6,000.
