Utah News
Utah had nearly 334,000 early voters, including me. That is a significant percentage of total registered voters. I am failing to find the number of registered voters in Utah, however. Utah's population in 2006 was estimated at 2.5 million with 31% minors.
Oh wait, it's in an editorial (of course, silly me)
Do your duty: Record number of Utahns register to vote
Congratulations, Utah. You've registered to vote in record numbers. According to the state elections office, more than 1.5 million Utahns - nearly 60 percent of the state's population and 220,000 more than last year - are locked and loaded and ready to do their democratic duty.
Utah County has more registered Dems than ever:
Utah County adds 80,000 voter registrations
"Four years ago, we had between 6,000 and 7,000 Democrats in Utah County. Today, we have over 11,000,"
More than 600 show up in Salt Lake City to rally against Prop. 8
Forget Joe the Plumber. Never mind Joe 6-pack. This election, says one Provo mom of two gay children, has spawned yet another political icon: "Mother bears who defend their cubs."
Millie Watts, who has six kids total, rallied Mormon mothers and their gay and straight, LDS and non-LDS, allies for a candlelight vigil Sunday night in protest of California's Proposition 8. If it passes Tuesday, the ballot measure would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in the Golden State.
'Boston' attacks Utah
Gee, David E. Kelley must have Googled polygamy. And, in the hands of the executive producer/writer of "Boston Legal," a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
In another over-the-top episode of the soon-to-be-gone ABC series, Kelley climbed back up on his soapbox last week. And made himself look like a pompous, uninformed bully.
Utah Sports
The University of Utah remains undefeated in college football. They are ranked 8 in the BCS and 10 in the AP polls. Other undefeated teams include Texas Tech (but not Texas), Alabama, Penn State, and Boise State.
Utah plays Texas Christian Thursday night, which will be a tough game - TCU is ranked 12. If Utah wins, they will likely get a very good bowl bid.
