The Times-Picayune's Jan Moller has a piece up exploring the future prospects of one Gov. Bobby Jindal among the conservative wing of the GOP, and they look pretty good.
Jindal was certainly the talk of the cons gathered yesterday at the home of right-wing "news" man L. Brent Bozell. The confab, which included the usual suspects (Grover, Tony, Kellyanne), was a strategy session to come up with ways to "fight against the liberal agenda of President-elect Barack Obama – with or without the Republican Party."
The Party is seeking some consistent self-identity amid mounting evidence of an irreconcilable split between traditional business Pubs and the social-issue shock troops the Party has depended on for victory over the last election cycles.
And, by all accounts, Gov. Bobby seems to be emerging as an acceptable consensus candidate for 2012.
To see if the gov is serious about this, watch for hints next week when Jindal speaks to the National Republican Governors' Conference in Miami.
Or do we really need to? Just after the Pub Govs Powwow, Jindal will make another trip:
Although he's said he has no White House ambitions, Jindal plans to make his first trip to Iowa on Nov. 22 to make a keynote speech at a high-profile Christian conservative fundraising dinner. The Iowa caucuses are the first major electoral event of the presidential nominating process.
So, while speculation will bubble incessantly around Sarahcuda, pol watchers would be wise to keep an eye on the odd, little governor Rash Limpboy has called "the next Ronald Reagan."
Because, as much as I would dearly love to comb him out of my beloved state's hair, I cannot, in good conscience, wish him on the rest of you.
