I saw Liebeman's interview on Katie Couric and I read the article on Politico and I had to actually really laugh out loud. So many people were saying "just trust Obama" or "its all about 60 votes" or "its not that big of a deal" and even quite a few were taking issue with Markos himself and how he responded to the betrayal. But its just hilarious to me that it didnt even take a day for Joe Lieberman to show all of the people supporting this course of action along with the Senate Democrats how he planned on paying them back for giving him the benefit of a doubt. I commented about this on a thread but it was suggested to me that it should have been handled as a diary and thus I have converted it. Now there is a fair amount of gloating over the fold and I make no apologies for it. I won't respond to any concern troll criticisms with any more than a smile because as Colin Powell famously said "you broke it, you bought it"
The headlines from the Politico and Huffington Post articles read respectively:
Lieberman: Dems didn’t punish me
Cheerful Lieberman: I Wasn't Punished At All
I wonder how Reid feels right at this moment knowing that he has to now go out and sell the media on the meme that he really did punish Lieberman when Lieberman says he didn't one day after Reid got up and did a full shucking and jiving set in front of the cameras to convince everyone he really had a spine. I mean he DID afer all take a subcommittee on Environmental issues from him. I mean who cares that he will still be right in the middle of the Energy independence and global warming conversation because he took the opportunity at the same press conference to announce a bill he has partnered with John McCain (suprise surprise) on to bring to the floor of the Senate. This was Harry Reid cracking the whip!!! Wasnt' it? The funny thing is quite a few milk toasts here were buying that bullshit too. Well lets check in on Lieberman and see
what he has to say to all of yall
Critics complain he got off with a "slap on the wrist," but Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman said Wednesday that he doesn’t regard his loss of a spot on the Environment and Public Works Committee as any kind of punishment for backing John McCain over Barack Obama in the presidential race.
"I don’t view it as a sanction," a relaxed and genial Lieberman told Politico as he walked through the Capitol. Instead, the Connecticut independent suggested he relinquished his seat on the committee voluntarily — "in the spirit of cooperation" — after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) asked him to help free up room on the committee for incoming senators.
Ruh Roh. Well what does Harry Reid have to say to that?
A Reid spokesman "disagreed" with Lieberman’s characterization but declined further comment. One senior Democratic aide, who reviewed the Lieberman resolution that passed 42-13 by secret ballot, also disputed Lieberman’s contention, saying it explicitly called on him to "relinquish" the EPW seat.
"It’s a sanction," the aide said. "Someone who serves on a committee for 20 years just doesn’t drop it in the spirit of cooperation. It was taken away from him — and that’s obviously what happened here."None of the senators emerging from Tuesday’s closed-door meeting shared Lieberman’s interpretation. Some were appalled that he had gotten off so easily, but none expressed the opinion that the EPW action wasn’t intended to send a message to Lieberman.Vermont Sen. Patrick Leahy, who wanted Lieberman stripped of his Homeland Security post, decried the loss of the panel seat as "a slap on the wrist."
Hmmm I for one am loving this. I can't wait to see this play out more and more over the coming weeks and months and watch all of the concern trolls who were admonishing kos and the members here about "freaking out" yesterday because the Democratic Senators showed themselves to be spineless cowards again.
By the way I would be remiss if i didn't point out Markos' remarks in the same article which I FULLY endorse. I guess he didn't lose his relevance after all did he concern trolls?
The Daily Kos blog’s Markos Moulitsas, who declared in disgust Tuesday that he was "done" with Reid as majority leader, said Wednesday that Lieberman’s characterization of the Democrats’ action was correct.
"He’s right. He wasn’t sanctioned," Moulitsas said. "And Senate Democrats trying to make that claim are dishonestly trying to cover up the extent of their betrayal of the American people’s vote for change."
Just for shits and giggles ill link the huffington post article that has the video clips from Joe Lieberman being interviewed by Katie Couric also. I just LOVE the part where he says he doesn't owe Obama an apology any more than what he said on election night. Thats funny because I heard so many people talking about just how much he owes Obama now and how that will keep him in line. But he won't even offer him an apology? I guess he didnt get the memo. LOL For all the sheep on this site enjoy the next two years of this clown, you have definitely earned him with your blind allegiance to the Democratic party!
