The one who is slowly disappearing into the pages of history looks like a man ravaged by sickness and disease. His gait has slowed. His shoulders are hunched forward as if he suddenly realized the heft of the guilt weighing upon them. His speaking ability, never his strongest suit, has become even more disjointed and pointless. His face which less than eight years ago still showed youthfulness has cratered in upon itself leaving a moonscape of creases and ridges. The whispers have begun about his returning to drinking. Not surprising. Alcohol momentarily dulls the senses and lets one believe things false to be true.
He says that he is not bothered by having the worst negative rating of any president at the end of his second term. He says that the mega-chorus of voices which daily denounce and disparage him does not bother him. He wistfully believes that in time history will vindicate both him and his presidency. But that too, like every other part of his years in office, is yet another chimera. And despite of his denials, we know that he is a man of enormous ego and all of theses things are part of the psychological cancer that has enveloped him and manifests itself in his physical appearance.
Lest you think that I write these words in order to evoke some pity for this wretched man, be quickly disabused of that idea. On the contrary, I take the biblical view that what a man sows so shall he reap. I also so hope that this process of deterioration will continue so that it may serve as a warning to any other man who wishes to wreak havoc upon the world that the wages of sin is death...death of the spirit and the death of one's humanity.
George W. Bush is getting every thing he deserves.
