I am thankful that after today I won't have to watch the pitiful panderings and partisan proverbs of a a man who once was considered honorable by many people, John McCain.
I am thankful that at least for the next four years, I will not have to hear the whining fingernails-on-a-blackboard voice of an unintelligent, crypto-racist, anti-intellectual minor pol from a minor state, Sarah Palin. (Nor will I have to hear about the "First Dude".)
I am thankful for the not having to wince in embarrassment every time the above-named governor toted her Down Syndrome baby around like a campaign prop.
I am thankful that I will not have to see or hear that moronic cretinous asshole, Joe the Plumber. At least until he runs with Palin in 2012 as her VP.
I am thankful that I will not have to listen to the insane, fantastical, delusional ravings of McCain's surrogates like Tucker Bounds, Nancy Pfotenhauer, and Michael Goldfarb to name just some of the leading lights of that coterie.
I am thankful that in 77 days, George W. Bush will slink off the world stage into the pit of ignominy he so justly deserves.
But above all, I am thankful that my country will once again be the land of liberty, justice, and equality for all. And that it will regain it's preeminent stature as the world's greatest democracy.
