How he would have loved to see this day. The day America elected the first African-American President.
When the pundits called it for Obama tonight, my first thought was for the African-American blogger - in fact, as far as I know, the first African-American blogger, Steve Gilliard.
Gilly would have been proud of this moment, and of us as a PEOPLE. You know he would have been live blogging this all night, and probably would have carried his laptop down to Times Square when the race was officially called.
I posted the following over at Jack and Jill Politics....in his honor.
Here's an excerpt from that post. Remember what he had to say abour Frankie "The Hair" Luntz after the Democrats swept the midterms back in 2006?
Shut yer festerin’ gob
I’d rather take advice from a cat before I would
take it from Frank Luntz
Frank Luntz
I am not in the habit of offering partisan linguistic advice to Democrats. But in the genuine spirit of bipartisanship - seriously - I thought this is the perfect time to convey a simple point to the still-euphoric faces of Democrat activists ...
Don’t twist the knife.
Let’s briefly sketch the political landscape in America today.
Republicans are still reeling quite deservedly from the political thumping they took in the November election.
The following are Steve’s comments on Frank Luntz’ observations:
Ignore this stupid motherfucker
The GOP are the largest bunch of whining children I have ever seen.
George Bush says vote Republican or die and now, when the Dems have real power, he wants to hand out lectures on not twisitng knives?
Where was he when Tom Delay was around? Sucking his balls.
The GOP likes compromise when they are the minority. When they’re the majority, they can bully and lie like it’s free.
Today of all days is when I really miss Steve Gilliard, because he, as the African-American Blogging Pioneer, would have loved this historical moment most of all. Especially since Bloggers kept it up to make sure Obama got the White House.
Now Steve, go introduce yourself to "Toot", okay?
