This is my first diary post. I've read the 'kos for three years or so, but never felt obliged to contribute.
I've been volunteering at my local Obama office, in Kalispell Montana since it popped up shortly after the primary. I've gotten to know our kickass field organizer, a young genius Ryan Stern. If you are a F.O. for the Obama campaign in MT, you are going to get screwed with. That's a given. He has taken the rantings of dozens of ignorant f*cktards for months, with dignity and professionalism. Yesterday we finished strong. I did ten walklists, starting at 6 am and ending 15 minutes before the polls closed. Returning to the office, I heard them call PA and OH and other states. We knew we had it in the bag. Then the phone rang, and I could hear screaming on the line. A smile crept acoss his face and for the first time in months, he could say exactly what he wanted. "I don't have to listen to your racist bullshit anymore." He hung up the phone and we walked around the corner to the bar to celebrate. Vandals trashed every car in town (mine included) that had an Obama sticker, but I'm way to happy to care. We almost got Montana, and I take a lot of pride in that.
