Senate Republicans' Scorched Earth Policy....

Over the next few days and weeks you will hear many explanations by the Senate Republicans for why they decided to torpedo the Big Three auto makers bail-out plan. They will include pieties and platitudes about not throwing good money after bad; not rewarding the failed management of these companies; dismayed by the lack of cooperation from the unions; not wanting to set a precedent of government as the fallback for future mega-failures. (Unless, of course, it's Wall Street or the banks or the insurance companies, all of which have been reliable financial partners of the Republican party.)

But none of those are the real reason which is the Republicans' plan of piling as many problems and crises on the new Obama administration as possible. They have decided that the only way for them to ever recapture power is to try to ensure that Obama's government will fail. And the chorus you will then hear four years from now is how they warned us about entrusting the country's leadership to an untried inexperienced political novice. They aim to lay waste to as much as possible with the hopes of burying Obama in an avalanche of foreign and domestic problems that will be unresolvable in eight much less four years.

Bush & Co. with the aid and abetting of their legislative toadies have spent the last four years dismantling many of the government's policies and programs which were designed to protect the daily lives of average Americans while at the same time giving free reign to their corporate overlords to rape and pillage the nation's economy. And now comes the icing on this poisonous cake. We see a raft of new regulations being implemented which will take months to overturn. We see Bush loyalists being permanently embedded throughout every department of our government. And now they Republicans in the Congress have set their minds to the work of obstructionism and dissent for the next four years. The "loyal opposition" indeed!

The effect of this ruthlessly self-serving policy will be felt most cruelly and most quickly by the middle class and the poor. Jobs will be lost. Homes will be lost. Families will be torn apart.

Now ask me if you think the Republicans give a f**k.
