I'm very excited about Col (Ret.) Ann Wright coming to Hofstra University and the Shelter Rock Unitarian Church tomorrow, to speak and promote her new book, "Dissent: Voices of Conscience". I picked up the second to last copy in the Manhasset Barnes & Noble, where it was hidden on the lowest shelf at the rear of one of the little book kiosks. Manhasset is Bill O'Lielly country, so don't go there if you're looking for a copy, because despite the presence of Falafel Boi somehow there's still only one left. ;-7 Colonel Wright will be at the Shelter Rock UU at 7:30pm. This event is a fundraiser for Iraq Veterans Against The War, and the suggested contribution is $10. She is being sponsored by the LI Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives, The Shelter Rock Forum, Great Neck SANE/Peace Action, Code Pink LI, LI Veterans for Peace, Pax Christi LI, and Social Justice Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock.
On March 6th, CodePink NYC will be participating in Hunter College's International Women's Day celebration, which is being coordinated by the Women and Gender Studies Program:
Hunter College on Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 12 noon to 6pm (Hunter West Building, southwest corner of 68th Street and Lexington Avenue, NYC, 3rd floor).
This year our International Women’s Day celebration will focus on the theme of "Grassroots Democracy." During this election year, we want to invite and encourage Hunter College students to "think outside the ballot box," to consider the concept of participatory democracy and, perhaps, to become actively involved with grassroots organizing.
Hunter College's CodePink table is sure to have a few DVD copies of graduate student Simone Delgado's 28 minute documentary, "Pink" for sale. Get 'em while they're hot - she's said that she might expand the project, which she did for her thesis, into a full-length mainstream release movie about us! I attended the first public screening of this film and to say it was powerful and moving is a gross understatement.

On March 9th, CodePink Long Island will follow up with their own International Women's Day celebration, to be held at Huntington Cinema Arts Centre. Click on the link for more information.
CodePink Long Island's morale is still flying high from the Teach-In they held in Rep. Steve Israel's office a few days ago, which was taped by Long Island News and appeared last night in a 15 minute newscast.
The teach-in at Steve Israel's office was very successful. Not only did we meet with Steve Israel and presented our information but we continued our teach-in at a 2 PM meeting with his staff.
We informed Rep. Israel about legislation that he was unfamiliar with and he said that he would look into it further. We presented our case for impeachment with clear documented facts about the cost of war, the infringement of our rights, the abuse of the Constitution, and the road to Fascism. We hope it made a dent but he seemed to be unmoved on this point. We were adamant about his responsibility to uphold the Constitution and told him that it was his DUTY to sign the Wexler letter calling for hearings on impeachment.
We're CodePink and we are proud! We are women, we are loud!
We are many, we'll be more! And we'll end this bloody war!
