First, what we progressives need is a few well thought out emails, factually true, not too technical or outraged to the point of what could be perceived as too tainted by liberal bias as to be blinded to any other considerations or facts.
Secondly, we need topics that hit home, that distinguish the differences between Democrats and Republicans without getting too preachy.
Third, we need a contribution and editing process so that we cannot be accused of pushing lies, instead we'll push facts or opinion (though not as good as facts).
Fourth, I believe that our emails should NOT look official (like they're coming from the DNC) but they should appear to better then just some mindless rantings.
And lastly, when possible, our content should be in a read-only format such as a PDF file so that it cannot be modified, without some effort. This should reduce the amount of attempts of forgeries and fakes since it takes a little bit of work. Though, I am not sure how much an issue this really is. Do we really care if someone modifies the original content? What harm could they do?
In regards to the second and fourth points, I believe that we have plenty of good writers in our blog communities. What we need is to dress up the content a little. So, I propose an article like format.
In regards to the third point about contribution and editing, I am not talking about generating content for this specific purpose. What I am talking about is that we contribute and edit in the form of re-formatted content to make some blog postings look more like articles as I have attempted below. You'll see what I mean shortly.
Now as far as content goes, I believe I've found a gem. How many times have we read something on one of the blogs and just wished we could get some of our conservative "friends and family" to read it. Yeah, we've tried posting email links, forwarding our F & F to a "leftist", "socialist" site in their opinion, or they were greeted with a whole lot of other content that they really disagree with. I mean think of it this way, would you go visit a redstate.com link if it came from one of your F & F ??
While the example I'm putting forth still makes reference to the original blog post, I provided the link so that recipients can see that the original content has not been modified (except for some minor typos). Actually, linking to the author's original blog post may be helpful in that regard.
Okay, so here's where I need your help. Unfortunately, to my knowledge in my daily visits to my favorites blogs - none of them provide online content storage. So, for now I had to link to my own Comcast account to get this whole scenario started. I have provided a re-formatted blog post by "Chris in Paris" at AmericaBlog.com. Please follow the links and download the two files. One is the blog post / article in a Microsoft Word Document (.doc) format, the other is a PDF of the same file.
The help I need is suggestions or go ahead and re-format the Word doc yourself. I am not a typesetter, magazine, or website publisher so I'm sure there are many of you out there that could make it look even more like an article.
The plan is that once it is completed, we provide a PDF only to our F & F network and all of us start forwarding it based on the original file posted here.
Take a look and read the content and tell me if this isn't the kind of thing that people of all persuasions, conservatives, independents, liberals and progressives need to see more of. I think this is the kind of content we should be forwarding to our F & F network, our congressmen, the news media, or whomever.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Here are the links:
The PDF file.
The Word doc.
Final thought, I have not yet obtained permission from Chris and really wouldn't know how. I am sure that copyright is not an issue but if someone knows how to get in contact with Chris feel free to post the info or take it upon yourself for his permission. Thanks.
