Smerconish shares the airwaves in Philly with some of the worst of the GOP Talk Machine - Beck, Hannity, O'Reily, and Rush as was as some pretty foul also talkeds.
Michael Smerconish: FOR THE DEMS, IT'S GOTTA BE OBAMA
But Smerconish has always been a bit more level headed. Kind like the Bill Press of the Right. He has a huge Philly audience that reaches out to the most (not any more!!) Republican burbs around Philadelphia.
Smerconish has some pretty nice things to say about Obama, but his primary reason - he wants to focus on Osama:
But right now, one is more focused on an issue of paramount concern to me - the failure to avenge the deaths of innocent Americans by bringing Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri to justice.
And that's Obama.
Beyond the usual family milestones, the most significant event in the life of any American born after World War II occurred on Sept. 11, 2001.
That day changed life as we knew it. Three thousand innocent fellow Americans died that day, and another 4,000 have died thereafter. Saying that is not an attempt to link al Qaeda and Iraq, nor is it a defense of the Iraq invasion. It is simply the recognition that without 9/11, there wouldn't have been the public support for the war. So I blame al Qaeda for toppling the first dominoes that led us to where we are today.
After talking with Obama, he sealed the deal:
Obama told me we should still ask the Pakistanis to target and attack the terrorists hiding within their borders.
"But if they don't, we shouldn't need permission to go after folks that killed 3,000 Americans."
ITHINK EVERY American can agree that our obligation to bring Osama to justice necessitates such thinking.
And while Clinton promises to answer the White House phone at 3 a.m., Obama threatens to disrupt the place many suspect the world's most despicable terrorists are still hiding.
It's not my party. I can't pull a lever on Tuesday.
But if I could, I would vote for Obama, for 7,000 reasons. *
Good news for Obama in PA. With Smerconish on his side talking truth, Obama has a much better chance of having the Right Wing attacks dispelled by a trusted voice coming from their same radio as the attackers.
UPDATE 1:
Also posted on WPHT's website is this glowing piece on Obama by Smerconish.
The Michael Smerconish Obama Project
I'm an avid reader, so chances are I would have gotten around to Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father sooner or later. I confess that I read it sooner out of curiosity about his reported admissions of drug usage. Yes, there is such a discussion. But it accounts for only two pages in the 442-page tome; the remaining 440 pages were something entirely different and, dare I say, uniquely American.
It's an amazing story and, regardless of the electoral ending, a uniquely American one. This country has always valued rags-to-riches tales, and Obama's family history is nothing less. I suspect that if the story began in Poland, or Germany or the Ukraine, it would be trumpeted as an American classic, not made a subject for urban legend.

I ain't the world's best writer, ain't the world's best speller
But when I believe in something I'm the loudest yeller
If we fix it so you can't make no money on war
Well we'll all forget what we was killing folks for
