OK, so I support Obama and blah-blah-blah, grain of salt. Whatever.
But first of all I'm a progressive Democrat (Obama was my third choice) and what I just read is patently offensive.
Hillary Clinton has no path to the nomination but is still hanging on. Fine, Mike Huckabee did the same thing, but at least he was funny.
There's nothing funny at all about bashing Democratic/progressive activists.
In fact, she's blaming and disparaging Democratic activism and activists for her losing position in the primary:
"At a small closed-door fundraiser after Super Tuesday, Sen. Hillary Clinton blamed what she called the "activist base" of the Democratic Party -- and MoveOn.org in particular -- for many of her electoral defeats, saying activists had "flooded" state caucuses and "intimidated" her supporters, according to an audio recording of the event obtained by The Huffington Post.
"Moveon.org endorsed [Sen. Barack Obama] -- which is like a gusher of money that never seems to slow down," Clinton said to a meeting of donors. "We have been less successful in caucuses because it brings out the activist base of the Democratic Party. MoveOn didn't even want us to go into Afghanistan. I mean, that's what we're dealing with..."
First of all: Hillary Clinton is a fucking liar. MoveOn did not oppose military action in Afghanistan. Oops.
But, hey, let's not split hairs. Everyone knows that Hillary "Sniper Fire" Clinton is full of it.
What is important is that Hillary Clinton is slamming Democratic activists--the core of the party--for her loss. She is slamming not only the core vote-wise, but the progressive soul of the party that make Democrats worth voting for in the first place.
She is slamming (while raising money from big-wigs) the people who are the future of this party. The people who have taken the Democrats out of the wilderness and have put in the hours, shed blood, sweat and tears to get Democrats elected, defend them from the Right, and make this party viable and forceful in the 21st Century.
She is slamming those of us willing to put the time in to actually make this party something. Now, for those of you who like to be about as engaged in your politics as much as your government I guess this is no big deal. You can't see that a revitalized, people-powered Democratic Party is the ONLY hope for a progressive agenda in Washington and thus a progressive future for America. And, you probably don't care. It might be because you don't understand and it might be because you don't want to understand as you'll do alright no matter how the rest of the country's doing. That's your prerogative.
If you don't see that the Democratic Party, owned by small donors and run by activists instead of being owned by corporations and run by consultants, is the Democratic Party of the future--and it is, make no mistake--then that's your problem. Or, I guess, it's not. Hillary's your girl.
But for real progressive Democrats this is a slap in the face, a kick in the shins, a punch in the gut and a fuck in the ass that Mark Penn wants to label "holding hands." This is unacceptable.
So, Boo-fucking-hoo, Hillary. Time for you to get lost.
This is our party now, not yours. You and Bill never even acted like you liked it. Much less us. Go back to Arkansas or Illinois or New York or Pennsylvania or wherever you claim to be from this week. Democrats don't need people like you. Seriously, any Clinton supporter that abides this kind of crap ought to really consider what kind of person it takes to slam and try to ignore/disempower the foot soldiers in the Progressive Movement.
We are the ones who are taking this party back from people like your husband and Joseph Lieberman (who slammed MoveOn right before he lost his primary as well) who would rather Democrats sell out to corporations and cede the social issues to the Republicans while at the same time trying to out-Hawk the Republicans by supporting stupid wars in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East.
We are the ones who are trying to actively define what it is Democrats stand for--and to ensure that that vision and goal is a progressive one. Not just one where Democrats are indistinguishable from Republicans on everything except being nominally better than Republicans on reproductive choice and the environment.
We want Democrats to stand for something. You want Democrats to fall for anything. And you want Democrats to lose.
We are the ones who are trying to form an apparatus and infrastructure to move this country forward in a progressive direction and simultaneously defend against not only the attacks in the press, but also the attacks on progress that people like you and your husband have championed alongside Republicans.
We will never forget that Bill and Newt smiled together when they killed welfare and sent millions of Americans further into poverty and decimated inner cities and rural areas as a result. We will never forget that you stood shoulder to shoulder with George W. Bush in going to war with Iraq and that you justified your vote (that you still can't admit was an error) by mentioning 9-11.
We are the ones who actually defended your adulterous husband when the GOP and their Right Wing Noise Machine tried to have him removed from office because of his affair with an impressionable young intern. We actually remember that MoveOn itself was founded with this sole purpose.
We now understand that you are afraid of true, genuine people-power in the form of the grassroots and the netroots. We understand that while you may technically be a Democrat, that you are not committed to the revolution within the Democratic Party that is taking it back from war-mongers, mealy-mouthed centrists and corporate interests.
We are fully aware that your insult, not even factually correct, is indicative of your allegiance to the old ways of doing business and that your fealty lies only with yourself, your circle and the power you stand to gain. We know that you are going to lose. And with you, goes the politics of yesterday, once and for all. Goodbye Dick Morris. Goodbye Mark Penn. Goodbye Karl Rove.
Goodbye Hillary Clinton.
We will never forget this.
Time to cry again.
Clinton supporters, is this the kind of candidate you want? One that disparages you and your friends and fellow progressives? Is this the kind of party you want? The kind of government?
Ugh.
