A Promise, not a Threat

After reading what Howard Dean said over the weekend, I am becoming increasingly concerned that the Clinton's campaign of negativity and divisiveness actually has a chance of paying off.

I was truly shocked when Dean characterized the race as "essentially pretty close to a tie." It is? Obama leads in every category, and barring a total meltdown on his part that will not change.

However, thanks to the media - and now, apparently, Howard Dean - the illusion that the race is neck and neck provides the Clintons with more time and opportunity to try to destroy Obama. And with it, to destroy the hopes of millions of Americans fed up with politics as usual.

The DNC had better wake up.

There are millions of people like me out here.

People who had become so disgusted with politics in our lifetime that we either just pulled the lever for the party we were brought up in or simply didn't vote at all, I'm ashamed to say.

I hope that the DNC acknowledges the number of individual donors, of new voters, that Obama has brought in, and that many of those new voters and new donors are former Republicans or apathetic non-voters. I hope they understand that most of these people have registered as Democrats not to vote against someone, but to vote for someone - for Barack Obama.

If this nomination is stolen from him, I suppose some of us will vote for McCain, some of us will not vote, and some, like me, energized and committed for the first time in my life, will continue to work for change.

But we will not vote for the Clintons.

And that's a promise, not a threat.
