Well it has been an interesting time in candidate filings. New candidates in and current candidates out.
Journey below the fold for an update and go and have a browse around the 50 State Page now with added district maps and district blogs!
Well first the bad news.
James Davis in FL 12 did not qualify for the ballot so there won't be a Dem on the ballot in November. Apparently Davis filed on time and handed over the filing fee but according to MyDD'er CentralFLEagle - "What happened is that the loyalty oath had not been sent to him with the rest of the paperwork that is required. Mr. Davis was unable to make the trip to Tallahassee personally, so once the oversight was discovered it was faxed to him for signature and returned. The only problem is that Florida law requires an original signature, and a fax just doesn't cut it." So no Davis on the ballot.
In better news we now have a candidate in AZ-6 - Glenn Fuller. He is listed on the AZ State Dem site and will no doubt test the limits of the Dem Party's broad church! Until his website is functioning or he files with the AZ SOS he remains running - unconfirmed.
So in summary we still have 422 races filled and more to come. This 422 includes:
i) 419 districts where candidates have filed or have active websites.
ii) 2 districts - PA 9 and PA 15 - where it seems our write in candidates got enough primary write in votes to appear on the ballot in November. We should see confirmation on Monday or Tuesday.
iii) 1 District - AZ 6 - where we have an Unconfirmed Candidate - Glenn Fuller.
We also have 13 districts where we don't have a candidate. This 13 includes:
i) 4 races where the filing deadline has passed and there won't be a Dem on the ballot.
AL 6 - Congressional District Map
Fl 12 - Congressional District Map
MS 3 - Congressional District Map
TX 11 - Congressional District Map
ii) 1 Rumoured Candidate - NY 3 - Dave Mejias - Rumour & Another Rumour
iii) 1 Race where the filing deadline has passed but a write in is possible:
CA 42 - Congressional District Map.
There is currently no rumored candidate but the natives over at Calitics are scouring the land for a starter - watch this space.
iv) 7 races where we are still looking for a candidate:
LA 4 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate.
LA 5 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate.
LA 6 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate.
LA 7 - Congressional District Map. There has been the odd blog mention of 1996 nominee Hunter Lundy stepping up. A best a huge longshot as he has said nothing to confirm that he is even thinking about running.
OK 1 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate.
VA 4 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate and it looks like the VA Dems have given up. - No nominating convention here. VA Dems have until June 13th to find a candidate.
VA 6 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate and the 6th CD district convention was held on Saturday without a candidate being endorsed. VA Dems have until June 13th to find a candidate.
A fantastic effort. We have heaps of time to fill the Louisiana vacancies and to confirm Mejias in NY 3 but deadlines are getting closer in California (Primary), Oklahoma and Virginia.
