Let me see if I can make this clear. I'm not just saying that he can win even if you were not to enthusiastically campaign for him; I'm saying that he will win in November even if you were to join John McCain on his ticket or if you were to launch a third party campaign and actively campaign against him aggressively. You cannot bully Obama into accepting you with threats or displays of political power.
I've said for months that I can see Barack taking Hillary as his VP simply because it would be a fulfillment of his Unity theme, and because it is in his nature to look past the ugly words that people use to emphasize their differences. He is just that magnanimous. But now I'm seeing something different. I now believe that he is much more acutely sensitive to the message that his ticket will send to the nation, symbolically.
The Barack Obama Movement is all about challenging Washington and the old political approaches that Hillary has embraced with enthusiasm this spring. Having her on the ticket would make the ticket vulnerable to the criticism that he is just like any other insincere politician, who talks change while acting differently.
No, the only way Hillary Clinton is going to end up on the Obama ticket is if she undergoes an epiphany of humility. She can still pull it off, but she will have to demonstrate a level of humility that is palpable. Directly and indirectly, she must communicate to her supporters that she now recognizes that she was defeated by a True Master of politics. She threw everything she could at him and he simply turned it to his advantage.
With the proper amount of felt humility, and public words that convey that level of respect to her supporters, she will make it possible for Barack Obama to take her on his ticket. Anything else, any kind of threatening crap guarantees that she will be pretty much ignored.
